The 4R Solution project, University of Manitoba and Mohammed VI Polytechnic University are jointly organizing a workshop titled “Canada- Africa 4R Solution and Precision Nutrient Management Workshop – Sharing knowledge to build African agriculture”. The three day workshop will be held at the University of Manitoba from July 28 – July 30 and will be attended by over 80 delegates from Africa and North America.
The workshop will create a 4R academic network to support knowledge transfer between Canada and Africa. This will help identify 4R and precision nutrient management research and extension gaps in Africa and raise the global profile of 4R Nutrient Stewardship. Ultimately, this will create an opportunity for future investment in 4Rs and precision agriculture research and extension in Africa.
The workshop is organized as part of the Global Affairs Canada-funded 4R Solution project that is being implemented in three Sub-Saharan African countries: Ethiopia, Ghana and Senegal. The initiative aims to improve socioeconomic wellbeing and resilience of smallholder farmers, particularly women, by incorporating 4R Nutrient Management practices (Right Source @ Right Rate, Right Time, Right Place) to improve on-farm economics, crop productivity and fertilizer efficiency.
The workshop will also lay the groundwork for a follow-up workshop at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Morocco in 2021.
